Tell Your Story! How do you serve? Do you know an organization or person you'd like to acknowledge? Email me here. In this issue, we are focusing on Petsmart Charities. As I write this, my dogs, Scout and Molly, are barking at the neighbor who lives in the home directly behind us. We are separated only by a chain-link fence, so our outdoor activities are in plain view. Scout is my beloved Akita mix. She is one of the most beautiful dogs I've ever had -- white with brown and black markings. She weighs about 70 pounds, and when you look in her eyes, you see the eyes of an old soul. Akitas are territorial, so she makes sure that no one crosses into her yard without knowing who's boss. At the same time, she is so loving -- she just drips with it. Molly is my beloved little dachshund mix. She is so sweet, and she thinks she should rule the roost! She doesn't. She is 23 pounds of black and brown attitude. She considers my bedroom her "office" and makes sure I'm well taken care of. Looking in her eyes, you feel a connection with life and love. Last night I was watching an episode of the show, Intervention. Here was a man who was obviously in very bad shape, addicted to crystal meth, living in a warehouse. And yet, he had this little white dog who didn't see his challenges. This dog was his companion in life. Animals are such an amazing blessing in our lives. I know what my animals mean to me. I sometimes wonder what they get out of the bargain. They often deal with our negativity, and sometimes we don't even notice them when they are right in front of us, we are so lost in our own thoughts. There are many pets who do not have a home. Petsmart Charities is conducting its national Adoption Weekend April 29 - May 1. Adopting a pet is a serious decision, so don't make it lightly. But, if you want to bring some love and joy into your life, they will be there waiting. For more information: Petsmart Charities.
